What Is Non-invasive Body Sculpting, Does It Hurt, And Who Is It For?

Nov 14, 2022

What’s the image that comes to mind when you hear the words body sculpting or body contouring?

Whatever it is, BSA is clearing the air and giving you all the information you need to know what constitutes body sculpting, the difference between non-invasive body sculpting and invasive body sculpting, and popular non-invasive body treatments that may be right for you.

Body sculpting, interchangeably called body contouring, is the general term for describing plastic surgery or less permanent treatments like Ice Sculpting.

Plastic surgery is considered invasive because the surgeon cuts, shaves, and sucks to modify the client's appearance. Things like the tummy tuck, Brazilian butt lift, breast implants, and nose jobs are considered to be invasive body contouring methods.

Non-invasive body treatments work toward the same results you’d see from a plastic surgeon, like Red Light Therapy (RLT), Radio Frequency Therapy (RFT), Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS), Jet Plasma, Ice Sculpting, and Teeth Whitening.

Ideal results are not always immediate, like with surgery - but ongoing treatment will bring about a difference in as little as one session.

Like plastic surgery, there are different types of non-invasive body contouring that can be applied anywhere on the body, such as your face, neck, butt, abs, back, arms, and thighs to:

  • Tighten and shape
  • Tone
  • Promote collagen production
  • Diminish scars, acne, and wrinkles
  • Add fullness and glow
  • Break down and burn fatty tissue
  • Reduce cellulite
  • Promote circulation
  • Restore skin elasticity
  • Mend sun damage
  • And more!

The great thing in general with body contouring is there are options for surgical and non-surgical body sculpting depending on what the client wants.

So, why would a client choose one over the other?

Clients should consider the risks.

With all surgery, there is a considerable risk of going under anesthesia.

Some people are allergic, have a high tolerance for it and may not fall asleep completely, or simply don’t qualify due to underlying health issues.

Yes, invasive body sculpting uses medical-grade products, and doctors do have years of training, but it doesn’t eliminate all risks.

Some people may be fearful of doctors and getting cut as well.

Not to mention, some cosmetic surgeries can be botched with irreversible trauma to the client.

While people should always do their research before any medical procedure, for some, it’s not worth going under for elective or cosmetic surgery.

With non-invasive body contouring procedures, you are fully conscious during treatment, and most people qualify as long as they’re not pregnant or have severe injury to the area.

There is never any cutting or scarring, and the overall risk is small compared to plastic surgery.

There is little to no downtime, and recovery doesn’t take weeks with non-invasive contouring.

People are so busy nowadays that some cannot afford to take time off to recover from surgery.

Even for people who have sick and paid time off, that can be limiting as you can’t always predict how much time you’ll need to heal and feel normal again.

In some cases, the meds to manage pain may not allow you to return to work if they cause extreme fatigue or drowsiness.

However, when getting the best non-invasive body sculpting treatment by certified specialists, there typically is no recovery period or downtime as creams are topical and don’t alter consciousness.

Facial treatment, fat freezing, and body wraps, for example, don’t cause any drastic changes to abilities or result in pain that limits mobility.

Non-invasive body contouring costs significantly less than cosmetic surgery.

PlasticSurgery.org says, “The average cost of a tummy tuck is $6,154, according to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This average cost is only part of the total price – it does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses.”

Meanwhile, Ice Sculpting is a fat-freezing procedure that takes inches off your waist with one session, which may cost as little as $250 for an hour. You typically need a couple of sessions for the desired results, but even with 6-8 sessions, you save thousands of dollars.

There are many spa treatments and types of non-invasive body contouring to help people become more confident

The best part is that it’s a great alternative to reach your desired body goals without anesthesia, cutting, extended recovery time, and heavy financial costs.

Non-invasive body contouring procedures like ice sculpting, electric muscle stimulation, and radio frequency therapy are great for toning and tightening skin, shaping muscles, and diminishing wrinkles over the entire body.

Services like Jet Plasma target acne and stimulate the generation of collagen while tightening the skin around the face and neck.

While there isn’t anything wrong with choosing cosmetic surgery to improve self-confidence, 45% of people choose non-invasive body treatments in the U.S. over minimally invasive body contouring (35%) and invasive body contouring (20%).
